Personal Statement
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it. That’s what my father has been saying to me since before I can remember, and I think that realization is the basis of my strong work ethic. Being the son of two Army veterans gives me a unique perspective on what success requires. Self-pity is never an option, and neither is avoiding a challenge. I truly believe success is on the other side of hard, which is why I work so hard to overcome all challenges as they come.
I love football and believe in myself to the fullest which is why I went a different direction than a lot of people where I’m from. While many of my peers decided to delay high school by repeating the 8th grade, I said that was not what I’m about. I decided to meet the challenge and focus on what was in under my control to meet the moment, and let nature run at its own pace. Being a 14-year-old freshman competing with 16-year-old freshmen was not easy, but easy isn’t the goal.
I don’t remember when I first fell in love with football, but my best guess is it happened hanging out with my father as a baby when he coached high school football. Football is all I’ve ever known, and I can’t imagine a life without it in some form or fashion. I love what it teaches me about myself and what it shows others about me. Everything in football is showing rather than telling. I get to show people that:
- I can push through adversity
- I am a disciplined person
- I know how to work well with others
- I can lead when called upon and follow when that is my role
- I am in fact an intelligent person
I will study engineering in college because my dream outside of football is to be a software engineer. I’m currently in an engineering magnet program at my high school.
I have no doubt that greatness is in my future because no matter what the obstacle, my solution has been to “achieve” my way to its end. Whether it was moving around as a military kid, dealing with bullies at an early age or fearing for my parents when they deployed overseas, I’ve always chased greatness to find myself in a better place mentally. Like my dad always says, “some people THINK it’s their job to tell you what you CAN’T do, but you KNOW it’s your job to show everyone what you CAN do.”. I’m a winner because I won’t accept anything less whether it be in the classroom or football field or in life!
The throw data was captured by Wilson Sporting Goods. Metrics were collected through a variety of drills during the Wilson QBX camps where players threw footballs using Wilson X Connected QB tracking technology embedded in each ball.
