Personal Statement

My ambition is to follow a university course which combines my two favorite subjects, Football and Training. This allows me to achieve my career goal of working in training within sports, including personnel training.

My passion for football began when I joined my local boys and girls football team at 13 years old and continues to today, which is demonstrated with my dedication and loyalty. During this time, I have had the honor of representing Silver Hill Boys and Girls Club, Gwynn Park High School Junior Varsity and Varsity. This rewarding experience provided an insight into the business side of professional sport.

I was born with Autism spectrum disorder, in the form of delayed speech. So, it has been a challenging fight when working with new coaches and teammates that have not yet got to know me personal. When I first joined Gwynn Park JV Football team, I joined a JV team that keep over 60 players, a lot that were bigger and taller than me. My coach later informed me that he was going to suit me up on game day, so my parents could see me in uniform and never play me. What changed his mind was my hard work and determination at practices. It took a while, but I was able to win over his confidence, the first hurdle was gaining his confidence that he could allow me to be on the field without getting injured. My hard work and continue improved skill level during practices allowed me to beat out other players that were listed in front of me to get playing time. At the end, I became a trusted player on the team.

The value of education is something that I have understood since a very young age. Both of my parents had an opportunity to attend college. This afforded them the opportunity to overcome many struggles in their personal, and professional lives. As a result, they made a commitment early in my life to do everything within their power to instill in me a love of learning and an understanding of the importance of hard work and dedication.

According to my Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meeting dated February 19, 2008 my reading fluency, comprehension, oral, written language, and mathematics skills were below grade level. With my parents love and sacrifice over the years, I have been able to devote the time and energy necessary to achieve academic accomplishment when odds were against me.
