Personal Statement
I have played the game of football since the age of 5. I bleed the sport, while having the passion and drive to make plays. My transcript shows I didn’t take academics seriously, because honestly I dealt with a lot of anger and tragedy from junior high to my last season of playing football in high school. That’s not said to make an excuse, but to inform you’ll of where my head was at during those times. I’m actually a very intelligent kid. But truthfully, at that time all I wanted to do was release my frustration out on the football field. Once the football season was over, I’d find myself disinterested in everything. I realize now that was a bad call and I have to live with that.  I did learn conflict resolution and ways to manage my anger through counseling. I took a lot of things for granted. Until I was forced to move to another school my Senior year out of my district, when my mother a nurse contracted COVID-19. She could no longer ensure I would be able to be active with my sports career.  She was unable to recover from the residual effects of COVID-19, within the time expected. My dad a Army veteran who also was dealing with PTSD exacerbation due to the pandemic, wasn’t able to ensure his mental state could sustain appropriately as he watched what COVID-19 did to our family. This in turn opened the door for me to go live with my uncle in Haughton, LA where I could  try and fulfill  my dream in football, still play as a senior and graduate 👨🏿‍🎓. I honestly didn’t realize what I was taking for granted, until I had to think about what if  my mom would’ve been taken from me. It gave me a different mindset. My mom moves mountains for me and my little brother. So ultimately I did want to make her proud.
I was granted permission to play football for Haughton High School. Under the Head coaching direction of Jason Brotherton. Michael Williams Jr #6 WR and was on my way to a record breaking Senior season, when I was tragically shot at a party that ended my season early.  I am praying and hoping that just 1 coach gives me a chance to prove to him, that I am 1 of those guys and can still dominate on and off the field. I lost every interest and faith that I had going into Senior season when I got shot. I’m now a proud graduate of Haughton High School. I would like to inform you’ll that I have been working diligently day and night to prove to a coaching staff,  I’m back an better !!- Michael Williams Jr
