Personal Statement
My coach has instilled in me a fundamental philosophy that drives who I am and how I approach each day: Everything in life is earned and we, as athletes, students, and individuals, are accountable to ourselves and our teammates for what we do. While this seems like a simple concept, I learned quickly that it requires an enormous amount of discipline and dedication to carry out. What this means to me is that, every day, I owe it to my teammates and myself to do what it takes in the classroom, on the field, and in the weight room to make our team stronger and to get better in all aspects of my life.
I believe I have grown as an athlete and a teammate, and will continue to grow throughout the remainder of my time at John Champe High School. I want to play football in college to continue my athletic, academic, and personal growth. I want to be part of a program that shares the same fundamental philosophy that guides me today, and that will challenge me at every step to be better. And, I want the experiences, successes, and failures that I will have as part of a college football team to help shape the man I will be after my playing days have ended.
Our coaches remind us at each practice that football is our craft and that we must continue to hone that craft every day if we are to succeed as a team. The athletes that you are recruiting will all have roughly the same physical traits and skills. In my view, however, it is a combination of work ethic, commitment, and accountability to one’s teammates that ultimately will separate those athletes and allow a player to excel at the college level. I believe that I have the physical skills, leadership qualities, and commitment needed to excel on your team.
