Personal Statement
Let me be honest, at 16 years old a large part of my life is still an "unknown". The thought of writing a Personal Statement seemed impossible. Things I know: I am a humble Christian. I am a son and the baby brother. Obviously, I am a student and an Athlete. But on the Football field I know WHO I am... I know how to succeed and that I have put in the work to get the job done. When the huddle breaks, I take my place over the ball... I am Jered, The Center! The Offensive Line has been my home away from home for the past eleven years.
It was a thrill and an honor to play in and win the 6th consecutive District XI Championship game as a Sophomore at Parkland High School. However, the most important lesson of my career came the following season. The leadership from the senior class had changed. The focus was less about the team (the family) and more about showing off, being the Star and cutting others down to advance. Although nothing could crush my love for the game, my Junior year was full of tough breaks and hard lessons. I saw first hand how crucial it is to be coachable and humble while still being intimidating and aggressive. I realized the importance of leaders and mentors within the team. It was then that I decided what type of leader I wanted to become for my Senior year. I vowed to stay focused on winning while always watching out for and helping others in the gym, on the sidelines and on the field.
The disappointment I experienced not only made evaluate my own leadership style but also helped me to decide a direction for my life after High School, College, and beyond. I have decided to major in Exercise Science, possibly followed by Chiropractic College. Ultimately, I would like to work for a College or Professional team.
