Personal Statement
I have been playing football since I was four years old. Since I first stepped on the field, I have aspired to play at the collegiate level. I know playing in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could change my whole life.
I am always working to improve my skills as well as training to get bigger, faster and stronger. I ensure my success by waking up early and starting my workout regimen every day from 5:30-6:30 am during the school year and summer. I am a team player and try to lead by example while also encouraging my teammates to do the same. I respect my coaches and understand I have a lot to learn and grown as an athlete until I reach college. I am very coachable and strive to be one of the hardest working players and one of the hardest working recruits you'll find.
My favorite part about playing football is the comradery and teamwork. It brings me gratification and a sense of accomplishment being able to see the joy on my teammates, coaches and family faces as we score a touchdown, or make big defensive plays. I enjoy putting in 110% effort practicing during the week with my team and then being able to go out and demonstrate all our hard work out on the field.
I continue my pursuit of perfecting the art of football. I learn from my coaches or study some aspect of football almost daily. To progress as a football player, you have to be willing to do what most average kids my age won’t do. I get up in the morning and workout out to build up my strength and conditioning. If I am enrolled in school sports that start in the morning I work out in the evening. I study football plays from different teams. While I watch football games I try to call the play before the play starts just to see how accurate my field vision is. Currently, I am working to refine the mental aspects of the game as far as breaking down the defense based on a pre-snap read.
I am always working to improve my football game. What I feel I am working on the most is my versatility as a player along with my coachability. When I walk on the on the field I want to be a player the coach can put where ever he needs me to benefit the team. I want to know how to play that position regardless if it is my primary position or not. I feel being versatile and knowing how to play all the positions along with demonstrating your ability to be coachable builds character to become a strong leader on and off the field. Which is what I strive to be.
In the classroom, I am respectful to my teachers; I study hard and maintain a high GPA. I am currently taking all Pre-Advanced Placement classes at my school which requires a high aptitude for academic excellence. I am an ambassador for promoting the students Athlete initiatives and I lead by example by maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I advocate for grades first! I tell them be coachable in the classroom you will ultimately be coachable on the field. I pumped my teammates up, I motivate them, and I let them know we can accomplish anything together. I am proud of my teammates and I do my best to let them know it. As a 7th grader in the top 5% of students in my class, I was selected for the Duke Tip program to take my SAT/ACT December 2017. I am involved in my school; I also try to take part in mentoring kids and participating in local youth camps.
I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and on the football field. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. I hope to become a great role model to all my peers and make my parents and coaches proud. A lot of people say it's not about how you start it's about how you finish. I have always questioned that statement.
Coming from a small military base in Arizona I was not in the best school system and the curriculum was not as hard as Texas. When I moved to Texas I was totally lost but I persevered, and it had felt like words were flying off the page and numbers didn't fit exactly how they were supposed to. When football became part of my life I felt as though it was outlet not just to hit somebody but to learn and think about the fundamentals of football understanding what do and how to do it. Before long, I used my passion for football to help focus my academics. Numbers started matching because of all the plays I had to remember, and letters just started fitting like never before. Since then I've thought of school as football and football as school and I became one of the top students of my class and I have maintained that high level of academic achievement over the years. So, no, I don't believe it's about how you start, it's about how you finish! I believe if you start strong and finish at the best of your abilities giving 100 percent effort; you can do anything.
