Personal Statement

Hi, I’m Sophie Caston. Softball has been my passion since I first picked up a glove at age 4, and I’ve always dreamed of playing at the college level. I possess strong leadership skills as the captain of my travel team, often assisting my coach and encouraging teammates to improve. I am very coachable and learn from my mistakes and those of my fellow athletes, always striving to get better each day.I am dedicated year-round to my craft by working on explosiveness, going to extra practice, participating in helping younger kids start softball, and always thinking about what I could do better. I spent my first couple of years of playing softball doing recreation ball, then I started doing travel, and I started on varsity my freshman year as a catcher. All of these teams and people contributed to my love for the game. I work hard in the classroom and have a 3.9 GPA. I am in the National Honor Society and the Beta club. I help out at elementary's for fall festivals, trunk or treat, etc. I volunteer at my local thrift store that donates money to my school. My team and I hold camps for younger players to help them with their skills and softball IQ.  For school ball, I got an Academic All Conference award my freshman year.I want to find a home at a college where I can push myself on and off the field, and academics are just as important to me as softball. I am open to all options for college and definitely want to find a college that is just right for me. I hope to make my teammates, friends, and parents proud.
