Personal Statement
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”
1 Peter 5:6
My name is Jonathon Roman Benefield. I have always gone by Roman. I am 14 years old; and I will be a freshman at Centennial High School, located in Roswell, Georgia, in the Fall of 2025. I have played multiple sports over the years including football, baseball, soccer, and basketball. But my single love is football. While I dream of being a quarterback in the NFL, I have numerous goals that I want to achieve before making it to that level. My first goal is to be the first freshman quarterback on the varsity team at my school. Second, I plan to break the passing record in a single season held at Centennial High School. Third, I am going to win a State Championship.
As much as I love football, my journey to becoming a quarterback has been filled with numerous challenges that have helped to mold my mindset and fuel my desire to be the best at the position. The biggest challenge that I have encountered is my height. I am usually 3”-8” shorter than other quarterbacks. I learned early on to let go of the insecurity that came with always being the short guy in the group. I know that I will continue to grow and one day catch up on the growth chart. But until that time, I plan on investing my time and energy into getting better at on-field controllables like my quarterback IQ, my throwing mechanics, and my speed and agility.
Off-field controllables like grades are also important to me. Math and Science are my favorite subjects in school. I have been able to use lessons learned from football, such as focus under stress and troubleshooting during difficult situations, to consistently earn Honor Roll year after year. I plan to earn an Engineering degree while playing football in college.
My dedication to being one of the best quarterbacks has been validated over the years. In early 2024, I was recognized as a MIDDLE SCHOOL TOP PERFORMER at the NCEC ALL-AMERICAN REGIONAL SHOWCASE. In the summer of 2024, I was recognized as the GATORADE OFFENSIVE MVP at an IMG summer camp. Again, in 2025, I was recognized as a MIDDLE SCHOOL TOP PERFORMER at the NCEC ALL-AMERICAN REGIONAL SHOWCASE where I ranked top 10 in 3 out of 4 quarterback metrics. My appetite to win continues to grow!
