Personal Statement
Baseball has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My grandfather was talented enough to tryout for the Pittsburgh Pirates and play minor league baseball for some time. Unfortunately, a family tragedy brought him back to Pittsburgh and abruptly ended his baseball career to help his family. His passion for the game was the reason that I fell in love with baseball. Ever since I was young, he would take me to Pirates games at PNC Park and would tell me stories about the game. His passion for baseball was contagious, and from early on, I knew I wanted to be a pitcher, too. He taught me how to think like a pitcher, stay focused, and never stop working. I’ve taken those lessons with me into high pressure situations over the last few years. Whether it was pitching in the PA State Championship as a sophomore or pitching in tournament elimination games, I have never backed down from an opportunity to compete with high level talent.
I would love to have the opportunity to carry on his legacy of pitching at the Division III collegiate level. I realize that it will take hard work on and off the field to achieve this. I am a student-athlete who is focused on improving academically as much as improving athletically. I am a straight A student in the classroom, and I have a 3.96UW/4.33W cumulative GPA. I would like to pursue a degree in engineering in either civil, industrial, or mechanical engineering.
I’m a hard-working pitcher trying to keep getting better, by building my mechanics, developing my pitch mix, and competing every chance I get. Baseball has shaped who I am, and I look forward to carrying on with what my grandfather started, in my own way.
