Personal Statement
Hello Coaches, name is Alberto Soto Jr, but everyone calls me Pops. I am a 5'9, 245-pound defensive tackle. While this last season I spent most of the game on defense, I also occasionally started as guard as well. As a freshman I started Varsity at center and defensive tackle and was named 2nd team all-league and received offensive lineman of the year. In my sophomore season I was named team captain, started on both sides of the ball and was named second team all-league. In my junior season I was also named team captain and received lineman of the year by my teammates.
I work hard to maintain my 3.8 grade point average as my education is extremely important to me. I volunteer as a mentor and umpire at the local little league where I grew up playing. I feel it is extremely important to give back to the community. Especially one that brought me so many great memories.
My coaches would probably describe me as a hard worker, fast learner, strong leader and highly coachable. I work hard at whatever opportunity is given to me and will always give my coaches and team 110%, once I start something I complete it with everything I have. While my size may not be ideal for a lineman, I feel I have a keen eye for football and have the ability to read a play very quickly. I am always willing to learn, will always be a student of the game of football.
I take my role as a captain seriously and try to lead by example. I have held my team to a higher standard, and I believe it paid off this season as we made it to the first round of CIF for the first time since 2017. I feel my leadership and workmanship would be a great asset to any program.
