Personal Statement
Hard work, dedication, and perseverance have paid off for me. I, Steve Fiscante, have played multiple sports throughout my life but found a passion for football my freshman year. Eager to tryout my freshman year I tried out and was cut. That didn’t stop me. Taking advice from the high school coach I joined and played for the local Pop Warner team. That season we made it to the Pop Warner Super Bowl in Florida. This was just the start of my journey. I really began to understand and appreciate the life long friends I made with this sport I love. In addition I started weight lifting everyday. I met a trainer named Nick Becton. He played in the NFL for 6 years. He has become a mentor and friend of mine. He taught me a lot about football. By sophomore year I made the team! Now senior year I’m a leader and starting center for my high school. It was definitely no easy road. One more hurdle came I almost died the end of my sophomore year due to a lung infection and collapsed lung. I was hospitalized for weeks. Once again my high school coach showed up at the hospital. I was determined as ever to come back stronger than before. A week after the chest tube was removed and I was out of the hospital I was back on the field practicing and preparing for the next season. My coach and my family inspired me. My mom is a first generation college graduate and I plan to keep this tradition by not only being a college grad but also a top collegiate athlete while bringing big changes to my community and world. Football has taught me about family and treating everyone in a kind and humble manner no matter what walk of life someone comes from. We are all one family and one team. It has also taught me mental toughness and how to push through pain and never give up. Outside of football I help tutor my friends and little brother. I also work a construction job with my dad while maintaining a 4.2 weighted GPA. I know I would help a college football team on the field and off of it by being a friend, family, leader, listener, and player.
