Personal Statement
My name is Joshua Shaw. I love sports, especially my first love, basketball. I was born and have grown-up on Chicago's south side. I take pride in my work ethic in sports and academically. I'm committed to continuously pushing my limits both on the court and in school. In basketball, I've consistently started on both my high school and AAU teams. I currently attend Mount Carmel High School which plays in the Chicago Catholic Conference. Before MCHS, I attended a catholic elementary school and feel fortunate to have received a solid education in academics, sports fundamentals and good character.
Basketball has been a large part of my life since I was young. It has taught me many lessons, including teamwork, perseverance, adaptability and coachability. With practice, I am developing strong skills and a deep knowledge of the game. This has helped me to thrive both as an individual player and as a leader on my teams. Basketball has also taught me the importance of mental strength and toughness, which I take pride in as a player.
My goal is to continue building, so that I can use my solid basketball skills, dedication, strong work ethic and positive outlook to join a competitive college basketball program!
