Personal Statement
I attend Durango High School in a small, mountain town in Southwest Colorado called Durango, CO. I was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in Africa, and placed in an orphanage ultimately adopted by my parents, Doug and Kelly Miller when I was almost 4. I have 3 older siblings, my brother Corbin, my sister Hannah who has intellectual disabilities, and my sister Emery who is playing soccer in college - and all of them are attending schools in Colorado right now. I am currently a 3-sport athlete playing varsity football, basketball, and track, but football is where my passion lies. I start every day in the weight room at high school before 7am, and take advantage of weekends for personal training sessions in the weight room and on the field. I recognize my God-given athletic talents and pour in grind, time and training to further my skills and I recognize the time, support, travel needs and money my parents put in too, since we live far from metro cities. Having recently visited Kenya, Africa this January 2025 with my family and small church group, I greatly enhanced my gratitude and further understanding of how blessed I am today, including knowing and playing the sport of football and having first-world opportunities both for sports and higher education. The Kenyan eye-opening experience replenished and reassured my motives, and my WHY. As I spend hours in the gym and on the field, hours watching and studying film and other players, who do what I dream of doing, I am now more motivated to push my talents and pursue my dream and get to a place where I have the influence and financial ability to go back, foster more relationship and give more generously.
