Personal Statement
I was not born into a baseball family. I still recall playing a T-ball game that one day when the coach told me to run to first base. I had not the slightest clue where First was, so naturally, I turned and looked at my parents behind me but they were as clueless as I was. However, my family was not afraid of the unknown, nor were we afraid to fail. The day my dad figured out how runs were scored, we were all so excited. Many parents may not let their kids play a certain sport if they do not know enough about it. That was not the case for us.
Baseball was quite a journey for me. On one side I know I was born for this sport, but on the other hand, there were too many reasons for me to give up. I choose to stick with baseball though, because of love. My passion makes me enjoy the everyday hard work I put into practice, and it makes me appreciate the progress that I exchanged from the pain and sweat. However, if it was just me alone on this journey, I would surely have not come this far. I will forever be grateful to the coaches and teammates who have helped me along the way. I am also grateful for what God gave me: my height, speed, and good arm, and I will keep working hard and not take them for granted. I would not trade my baseball experience for anything.
The game of baseball taught me many lessons, including having the braveness to venture into the unknown and step out of my comfort zone. I can play many positions, and while learning to play different positions, baseball has increased my ability to learn new skills and knowledge quickly. Another thing baseball taught me was time management. My life is a balance between baseball and academics. Off the field, I keep my academics up and maintain straight A's in the classroom. I have received numerous academic awards, and this year, my freshman year, I am taking two APs and precalculus DC. Keeping my academics up while performing in baseball is for sure difficult and requires me to manage my time well, but I would not rather have it any other way, because I enjoy both.
In college, I want to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. I aspire to help make the world a better, greener place with the character traits and lessons learned from baseball, and academics from university.
