Personal Statement

I have always loved soccer but played it mostly recreationally until middle school. I had been a competitive athlete since the age of 3, competing in state-level gymnastics competitions until middle school where I got too tall for gymnastics so I turned to my other athletic love, soccer.  I have focused on it ever since.  Since transitioning to competitive soccer I have become a defensive leader on my team who is responsible for making sure all our defenders are positioned properly and know their assignments.  Additionally, I communicate very well with our goalkeeper so I am rarely subbed out.

I believe in working hard to meet my goals. I work at a local gym part-time so that I can use their equipment for free.  This allows me to work out most mornings for an hour before school.  This gets my day started out right. I work hard in school as evidenced by my GPA (3.94 unweighted/4.06 weighted) in a college preparatory heavily Honors and AP ladened schedule.  My schedule has also helped me develop good time management and organizational skills.  I feel these will be key in being successful in college as a student athlete.

My greatest thrill in soccer is not necessarily scoring a goal. Being a defender I have scored a few goals on long shots or corner kicks, or when I have been moved up to be midfielder but my greatest thrill is stopping the opposing team's run with a steal with my quick feet, positioning and reactions then kicking the perfect outlet pass to an attacking teammate so they can score.  That brings me more joy than scoring the goal myself.

I am not sure where I want to attend college, or what I want to study yet,  but it will likely be science or business related. I am open to different size schools and different NCAA Division levels.  My coaches have always considered me very coachable and flexible so I am looking for the right college and team fit.  I would like to contribute to a college soccer program where I can grow and learn and help the team reach its goals.
