Personal Statement
My name is McKayla Lawrence, I am 16 years old, and I have just entered my junior year. I have played volleyball for 6 years consisting of school and club volleyball. In the past 6 years, I’ve spent many hours dedicated to bettering myself at volleyball and countless weekends competing with everything I’ve worked toward. Volleyball is my passion and something I always have and will continue to strive to be better at and push myself as far as possible, on and off the court.
Playing volleyball year-round has given me many skills that I will use throughout my life. It has given me collaborative abilities, physical, and mental strength to help me become a supportive and reliable teammate on and off the court. I consider myself a hard worker and I always try to be as good as possible at whatever I'm pursuing. I played ds for my middle school team for 2 years while simultaneously playing for my club team as a libero. After COVID, my club shut down and I had to find a new club team and play with entirely different people. My freshman year the new team I had joined needed a right side, so I stepped up and learned the mechanics of the right side and was a hitter for the first half of the season. During the season one of my teammates fell ill and was told she had to sit out for the rest of the season. After this happened, my position was changed from right side to an all-around player. I played all-around for the last half of the season. This unexpected pressure has made me a better teammate and player, it helped me with the mechanics of the court and controlling my emotions on the court, and in everyday life. For the 22-23 school season I played Varsity Libero for my local high school. My coaches describe me as "a hard worker, coachable, flexible, having great potential, and someone who could get the job done."
I strive to be the best teammate and player possible. I am striving to be a better all-around player, have the knowledge of every position on the court, and play it to the best of my abilities. My goal is to be a great person and player on the court, as a student, and in everyday life. I would love a college that can take me as far as I want to go in the medical field and help me grow as much as possible. My education goal is to pursue a Doctorate Degree in Dental Medicine, to become an Orthodontist. I am looking for a college volleyball team with coaches dedicated to helping their student-athletes grow and become better all-around players that can be taken throughout their whole life. I want to meet people and create relationships that will last a lifetime. A college with a great dental school where I can learn as much as possible and pursue a great career while also playing volleyball would be the perfect place for me.
