Personal Statement

• Growing up, my mother always told me that I could be whatever I wanted to be and I could do whatever I wanted to do. She would say that, "all things work together for the good of them that love the Lord." These are details about my life that have influenced who I am. I grew up with a strong belief in God and that without good character, my athletic talents mean nothing. I became interested in sports when I was born. I came out with a ball in my hand. So my mom used to say. I have been playing since I was 4 years old. Through playing sports I have learned how to be disciplined and have learned how to be a team player. I also learned patience and how I should never give up and always give my best. I know that I will always strive for greatness as well as giving everything I've got and more. Academically, I plan to make it a priority. My goals are to study hard, and receive a 3.8 or better when I finish high school and continue that through college. It has been hard growing up because I've had to grow up taking care of my grandparents and helping my sister who has MS and has seizures. It is hard watching her be sick all the time and I have to watch my nephew who is autistic. But my mother is raising me to be very strong. She is a single parent and had fought hard to give me everything I need and most things I want. I am a unique individual because not only am I big for my age, but I have wisdom and great compassion for everybody. I feel that my work ethic and my attitude makes me different. There are many athletes who are talented just like I am. Some even more talented. But, the combination of talent, character, will and attitude makes me a far greater athlete than most.
