Personal Statement

From the time I was seven years old, I have loved playing football.  I began playing flag football and then tackle for my local sports league.  While I have played many sports over the years, the game of football separates itself—it is the intensity and the knowledge that every single play matters and if I let up for one minute, it could cost us the game. I have learned to be committed to my team, working out and staying in shape to perform out on the field when my team needs it most. Making varsity as a sophomore was a unique experience. It taught me a great deal about myself and my teammates. Playing with juniors and seniors as a sophomore is definitely not the easiest thing to do, and it really pushed my game to a new level. I was able to learn from the upperclassmen who have experience and knowledge in their positions.

My academic goals for high school are to finish with A's and take rigorous Pre-AP and AP classes that challenge me to do my best. I was named a 17 6A Academic All-District Athlete in 2020. I have already begun taking business classes in high school to set me up for a successful college education and career. When I enter college, I would like to pursue a business degree and further develop my skills and education.

I am a very positive and enthusiastic person.  I am also helpful at home, assisting with my brothers and chores. When my friends or family are feeling down, I try and make them feel better and show them the positive side of life. Being the oldest child, I had to mature quickly to help with my two younger brothers. I try to lead them and be a role model to them. I think I have grown as a person in doing so. In my free time, I like to volunteer in my community to help people in need. At my church, I participate in a mission program called Summit where we go for a week to a place in need and rebuild homes affected by natural disasters and disrepair. This year, I was named one of the leaders to help set up the trip and choose the theme for our upcoming trip. I am also a leader and volunteer in other ways: my church’s Vacation Bible School, Houston Food Bank, Sleep in Peace, Memorial High School Garage Sale, Kid’s Meals, and Farrington Ministries. I find that helping others is very fulfilling and makes me a better person.
