Personal Statement

Leadership is a skill for which I strive. Like many people I am a work in progress. Growing up I thought I was going to be a rapper because of how creative I was at rapping. Later, I wanted to be a basketball star because of my shooting ability. I learned how important it was for me to be committed and to practice my skills. I believe that my commitment and willingness to practice in sports will help me be a better college student. I recently discovered that I want to be an automotive engineer. I want to be an automotive engineer because I’ve always wanted to know how to build sports cars, fancy cars, and super cars, etc. I wanted to also own my own car company because I like cars and I would like to drive my own designed car. I realize that I need to go to college for this.

I know that I'm ready for college because of my leadership skills that I show through service in my community.  Throughout my years in high school, I have shown commitment and done lots of events for my community like dignity breakfast and community dinner. Dignity breakfast is a community service opportunity that my school hosts. We go to homeless shelters and feed the homeless. Community dinner is a church event hosted by my church,  (St. Agatha,) where we invite the community to come and we feed them, including a lot of homeless people.

I believe I’m prepared to be successful in college because I know how to accomplish great things. In my high school years, I have received awards and honors that I’m proud of, including membership in the National Honor Society and Peer Ministry. I was also selected as defensive player of the year in football. I believe this suggests I am a goal-oriented individual. I know how to be successful and I know that failure is never an option. No matter how many times I feel like I want to give up, I pick myself back up and move on. My faith is important to me. I respect and thank God a lot because he has been with me at all times. He taught me to get back up and keep moving.

There are a couple people in my life that I respect and admire, and they are Ray Lewis, Khalil Mack, the pastor of my school, and the pastor of my church. Ray Lewis and Khalil Mack are the best professional football players to ever play linebacker. All they talk about is work ethics and beating the odds. They taught me to put my mind to anything I do and I’ll get where I need to be. The pastor of my school teaches me to be a disciple of God and the pastor of my church teaches me to be a man for others and that all things are possible through Christ our Lord.

My faith and my experiences have shown me the way to become an excellent college student. Overall, I am a leader who is committed and represents servitude and brotherhood to others in my community. Without these key ingredients, I wouldn’t be who I am.
