Personal Statement
I am a hard-working student athlete. I have been in recreational sports since the age of 5 starting with the game of soccer. Sports played were soccer, baseball, basketball, football, and track and field. My dad was a former high school coach for football and track and field in Cumberland county, North Carolina (South View High School) and Dekalb county, Georgia (Cedar Grove High School). He was also a graduate of Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC. Because of my dad I have a love for playing football and running track. I see myself competing in both sports throughout my academic career and eventually playing professional sports. Currently, I play football and run track for Jonesboro high school varsity teams in Jonesboro, GA. I've started playing football through Clayton County Parks and Recreations at the age of 7. While in middle school I played football at MD Roberts Middle school in Jonesboro, GA and at the same time continued to play at parks and recreation. I also played had the chance to play on the all-star team in middle school. In middle school, I was awarded male athlete of the year. Due to my many years of playing football, I was able to start off on special teams and move quickly to the varsity team freshman year. This afforded me the opportunity to be a starter half way into my first season of freshman year. My positions on the team are Running Back and Strong Safety. I was recently awarded the Jonesboro Football FCA Character Award.
My track career began in middle school. I won County championship for 100 and 200 meters. I am currently on the Jonesboro High School Track Team. I compete in the 100m(11.17), 200m(22.79), 400 (52.57), 4x100, and 4x400. This summer I will continue a 2nd summer with Cougar Track and Field summer club.
In addition to being a student athlete, I am a big brother and son. As a big brother, I am responsible with driving my younger brother to and from school each day. This is a big burden lifted from my mom. She works every day and has a long commute. Also, I'm a member of Dixon Grove Baptist church in Jonesboro. Also, I am a volunteer at a food Bank in Atlanta. I was raised to give back. I was raised to give back by my mom and Grandmother. My grandmother is a former Social Worker for the state of Connecticut and a graduate of North Carolina Central in Durham, NC. She was the first and only person in her family of 8 to get a 4-year degree.
I am pursuing a career in health. I plan to major in Biology or Sports Medicine.
