Personal Statement

My Name is Robert Folk Jr,  My collegiate goal is to graduate with a Bachelor"s Degree in Business Field while playing competitive football.  I would like to own a horse farm after college.  I believe I am an excellent candidate for your team because I am a dedicated team player.  I have high football IQ as well as uplift my teammates when they are down and not focused.  I am highly motivated with great leadership skills.  I am a hard worker both on and off the field.  I am different from other recruits because getting to where I am was not an easy feat.  I started playing football at 10 years old.  I wasn't the most athletic player on the team.  I had to work twice as hard as some of the other players that had been playing since the age of 5.  I learned to watch plays closely and figure out outcomes all while pressing myself to work hard physically.  I was basically playing catch-up.  When I got to high school, I was placed on the varsity football team as a freshman.  I got limited playing time, but did not get discouraged.  I worked harder in practice and spent more time listening to the coaches.  I am highly coachable and still working just as hard to grow to prepare for college level football.  While my grades have been good, I have to also work hard in the classroom.  I have learned to focus better and seek assistance when I need it.  I have learned that when I don't have all the answers, it is okay to ask for help.  I also had to teach myself focusing techniques and coping techniques to overcome the diagnosis of ADHD, which I think was an incorrect diagnosis at the age of 10.  Nonetheless, I viewed it as a stepping stone to drive me to become a better me.  I also have a great support system that has allowed me to grow as a student and an athlete.  I am very loyal to my family, friends, and teammates.  I have 10 sibilings, and we learned that teamwork makes the dream work all of our lives. I don't believe in allowing myself or people surrounding me to believe in limits.  We are only limited by our own thoughts.  My determination to be the best I can be in all areas of my life had pushed me to work harder and learn to work smarter so that I can reach my highest potential.  When I make a decision, nothing can stand in my way.
