Personal Statement

My greatest achievement in life has been my ability to overcome the obstacles in my life and prove the doubters wrong. My father died in an accident when I was four years old, so there was really no father figure in my life. My mother had four young boys to raise on her own, and times were not always easy. As close as we all were, I still lived with the stigma of being the youngest, and I watched each of my older brothers make the decision to drop out of school and get their GEDs. They made decisions that had very negative results in their lives. Of course, everyone expected the same from me, and I vowed not to follow in their footsteps and have worked hard and dedicated my life to proving just that. 

Sports became my safe haven from all this madness that was going on in my life. It kept me in line when I began to act up. Every time someone told me that I was going to end up just like my brothers I told them “watch me”.  I dedicated all my efforts and time into becoming a better athlete as well as a better person in the world.
