Personal Statement
My name is Richard Baugh lll and I, like many others would love to pursue my academic as well as athletic career at the collegiate level. Unlike many others I believe hard work is not hard. It is the standard. This is the same standard I use in my approach to preparing for success on and off the field. And I believe my work ethic, in this regard will be a factor in helping me achieve my goals. Some of my goals are to lead my high school team to the playoffs, complete high school with a 3.3 GPA, and study psychology and behavioral sciences in college. When I am not studying or training for football, a hobby of mine is sewing and tailoring clothes. I was introduced to it in middle school and it stuck with me. Also, some of my classmates pay me to alter their clothes.
Although I have participated in sports my whole life, I had not been tested more than when I lost my starting receiver position, on varsity, my sophomore year. I had not felt this challenged before, but I had to work to find a way to stay motivated and positive about the situation. I am grateful for the learning experience I got from that setback. Now I can say with confidence that sports has given me the opportunity to enhance my stronger character traits. A few examples include being goal oriented, disciplined and extremely competitive. One highpoint for me, during the off season, was receiving the MVP for my position group when I participated in the Big Man Takeover camp. The position coach that made the decision spoke about my character in regards to my ability to be coached, coach others as well as my leadership qualities. I think these traits will contribute to me successfully achieving my goals.
In closing, I believe that I can make a considerable impact on any college program. I have had four different offensive coordinators with three different playbooks that I have had to learn. I am also a very technically sound route runner that brings a deep understanding of my position to the table. I am constantly being recognized for my leadership on and off the field, which further shows my ability to be an independent thinker and influence others in the right ways.
