Personal Statement
I am looking forward to attending college and working towards my future career interests but I have always dreamed of playing college football. I have not finalized my choice of majors but have strong interests in Entrepreneurship, Business, Engineering and possibly Physics. I have played athletics throughout my life including football, basketball, track and rodeo through high school. I am very motivated by my participation in athletics and feel that my athletic participation has always provided a balance to my academic studies. I have a number of life goals including owning my own business and I have worked hard to perform at my best both academically (honor roll, high GPA) and athletically (conference, district, and state honors as well as breaking numerous school records this year).
I have been playing football since third grade and I enjoy every second I get to improve my skills. I played QB this year along with MLB and worked hard to support my coaches in developing team cohesiveness and ultimately we were able to achieve making the state playoffs.Throughout the season I accomplished a number of personal records as well, including rushing for over 1000 yards and breaking the school tackle record with 146 tackles in 9 games. I averaged 22 points per game with a total of 198 points in the season. In other seasons I have played running back and feel I am probably best suited to that position although I understand and can function in almost any role on the football field. During this season I seldom left the field on either offense or defense, I truly just enjoy every minute I can be on the field.
I have had to overcome some adversity. Although I was on track to having a great year my sophomore year, I tore my ACL during the second football game and underwent surgical repair. I spent the rest of the fall and winter in rehabilitation and then lifting and conditioning in the weight room. Ultimately, I was able to return in time for track season, qualify to compete in the state track meet in the 4 x 100, qualify for National Finals High School Rodeo in steer wrestling, and win our school’s all around Strength and Conditioning Award for the year. Although it was very difficult for me to sit out the remainder of the season from my favorite sport, I feel I was able to overcome that challenge and come back better than ever through persistence and hard work.
When it comes to leadership I have always felt like I am good at connecting with players and helping them strive for and achieve their best. I was elected as one my football team captains this year and really enjoyed being a role model and mentor for younger students on and off the team. Younger students seem to feel I’m approachable and helpful and I have encouraged them to ask for help from me whenever they need it. I have also been selected by my school administrators to attend leadership days where we learned about how to connect with people and be the best possible leader. Overall, I believe that I could be an excellent addition to a college football program and I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I could contribute to the success of your program.
