Personal Statement

It’s always been my dream to play my favorite sport at the highest possible level. From when I was 4 years old and learning to kick a soccer ball on my first team, or my Dad teaching me how to pitch a baseball at 6; to hours spent over the road for long tournament weekends, to winning little six league Football Super bowl Championships;  I have been driven to play. Each day I wake up, with this need to fulfill this competitive void inside of me. It that this drive that gets me out of bed each day, to go to work on improving my skills on the field hours after practice has ended. I know that in order to achieve greatness, I need to work hard. Then I need to work even harder. It’s a real challenge in life, to find balance between friends, school, a part time job, and sports, but my parents have instilled discipline in me that leaves me no choice but to give every day 110%. I wasn’t always the fastest kid, the strongest, or the smartest. But I have learned to adapt and overcome, those challenges. My coaches in little league and in high school have pushed me every day to give a little more. To be honest some days can be really frustrating, especially when the game ends in defeat. But I have learned that if I  do my job to help my team, and can say that I did it with everything I got, then I can still hold my head up high, even thru a loss. All the hours, blood, sweat, & tears we spend working, as a team, not only teaches us to become better men, but bonds us to a brotherhood  for life. The game of football, and my brothers that I that I step on the field with each day, have has helped shaped me into who I am.  I only hope that one day, I can coach and teach young men as I have been and help shape them into becoming better men. I haven’t totally decided where the road is going to take me academically. I have many interests, especially in sports medicine and education. I do know that I want to give back to kids the way that my coaches have given back to me.
