Personal Statement

Earning the Defensive Line MVP and Sportsmanship Awards at NextGen’s The Show, hosted by IMG Academy, has been the highlight of my high school football career. I feel especially proud of this because I set the bar high for myself and even expected more from myself that weekend. Throughout the year, which is only my 2nd year of playing organized football, coaches at various events have pointed out that I show no fear and I persist to my goal. This is part of who I am deep inside of myself. I will never give up. From a young age, I have always had to face different obstacles due to living in different environments and in different countries around the world.

I first learned to be an athlete in West Africa while coming up in Ghana. Ghana taught me to love sports and endure through adversity. In Sweden, I was introduced to American Football, handball, track and field, and rugby. I developed my intelligence for these sports and a deep understanding of what my role needs to be on a team - motivator and leader. Life has taught me to never give up and to strive always to make myself better. Because of my educational foundation in the IB, I have practiced collaboration, reflection and taking action over and over again.

When I go to college I would really love to study Psychology, because I am really good when it comes to understanding emotions and people. I will work hard for the things I love and care about. Therefore when it comes down to the football field, I am prepared to showcase my talent and be the ultimate team player.
