Personal Statement
Resilience means knowing how to cope in spite of setbacks, or barriers, or limited resources. Resilience is a measure of how much you want something and how much you are willing, and able, to overcome obstacles to get it. - Dr. Tony Alessandra
As a student-athlete, I know the importance of student first, athlete second. For a student with learning differences, that is a much more difficult prospect than it sounds. It means that I had to go around the obstacles of a traditional curriculum to learn an entirely different way. I had to work harder to succeed, and sometimes, sacrifice summers and "free time" in tutoring and summer school. This was my path so that I could be a successful student and also play the game that I love.
I took these life challenges and applied them to my passion and love for football. It is through having taken the harder path that I have built a belief in myself and my God-given abilities as an athlete. It is also the reason that I am willing to work the hardest on the field despite anything that may come against me. I have overcome challenges, failures, and adversity and through that, have found success as a student-athlete.
My future is bright!
Best,
Miles Rhoden
