Personal Statement

I just recently decided to try to play field hockey in college. I am a senior in high school, had the best and most fun year playing field hockey this season and want to see if it isn't too late to try to get on a team.

I have been playing field hockey since my public middle school started a team back in 7th grade. My own high school doesn't have a team so I have played on club and community teams. Though my parents offered - I didn't want them to go into debt to pay for private school or sell our house so I could play on a dedicated school team. It was hard and sometimes isolating being the only one from my school on these teams. It was difficult to gel with teammates who had so much in common due to going to school together, but I persevered, created strong friendships while continuing to work on my field hockey skills - being named our MVP my junior year and this year (25 goals this season). This year I was captain of an awesome, young, scrappy team and we came in second place for the season! I am so proud of what we did together and that positive experience has me wanting to continue to play field hockey in college. I have a lot of passion for the sport and determination to be the best I can be on the field and in the classroom.
