Personal Statement
- Leadership has always been important to me and I have always strived to be a leader in all I do. My senior football season tested my ability to lead through adversity. At the end of my junior year I completed a resume and interviewed to be a member of the Homestead Leadership Team (HLT) for football my senior year. I was chosen along with 8 of my teammates to study and become the best leader I can be. Toward the end of my sophomore season I took a helmet to my shoulder. Wrestling that year injured my shoulder more and I would battle this injury through all of my junior season. Toward the end of junior season I was fitted for a brace which limited my mobility in my shoulder but allowed me to continue playing football and play lacrosse in Spring as well. My senior year began and coming off of winning a state championship where we were underdogs in 2018, I was honored to be a part of HLT leading my team but the brace wasn't helping. My shoulder continued to sublux and it hurt more and took longer to recover every time. I quickly came to the realization that leadership for my senior year would be helping my teammates learn my position and guide them in any way I could to assist my team. I lost my starting spot due to my limited ability to play but spent my time coaching the younger linebackers sharing everything I know. After it subluxed yet again, my orthopedic said it was time for surgical repair. I was back at practice the day following my surgery supporting and motivating my team any way I could. This was definitely not how I pictured my senior season but taught me a lot about the true meaning of a leader. I am in rehab working hard with a goal to be ready to play lacrosse in spring and my surgeon feels there is no reason I can not continue to play in college and continue to be a leader both on and off the field. These leadership characteristics will carry over as I study entrepreneurship in collegeĀ and work toward my dream of opening my own business.
