Personal Statement

My name is Kaitlyn Mulcahy. I live in Cedarburg, Wisconsin and attend Divine Savior Holy Angels High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am a rising junior and will graduate in May 2021. I am the youngest of six children, so growing up I was always surrounded by sporting events. I played elite soccer and basketball from first grade, until my final season of basketball in 8th grade. When my older sister entered high school she fell in love with field hockey and begged me to play. In 7th grade I played at a Summer camp held at my future high school. I was intrigued by the sport and started to play club at Milwaukee Field Hockey Club. After two months of playing field, in the transition between fall and winter, my U-14 team goalkeeper decided not to play. My coach asked me to try goalkeeping and I loved it. After a year of playing both club basketball and field hockey. I decided to stop playing basketball so I could focus on improving my goalkeeping skills.  I became more devoted to my U-14 team and the next winter we won our pool at the National Indoor Tournament and that Summer we were the first team in club history to qualify for National Club Championships. I fell more and more in love with the intensity of the game and the skill behind every save. When I began high school I continued to play using my love for the game as my inspiration. I was the only Freshman on Varsity Reserve in the Fall of 2017 and the following Fall (2018) I was the starting goalkeeper on Varsity. My 2019 High School season ended with a State Championship after double to and shootouts, I was the starting goalkeeper. I believe my positive attitude and hard work ethic benefit my team greatly. I am dedicated to the sport and continuing to not only improve my skill, but also help my teammates reach their full potential as players. I would like to continue playing at a collegiate level. I am interested in studying special education, psychology, and neuroscience. I would like to be a special education teacher or counselor. I volunteer at St. Coletta's, a school for children with cognitive disabilities, and Gigi's playhouse,  an organization assisting children and teenagers with Down syndrome and their families. I am also a Best Buddies Club Officer for my school's chapter. I wish to continue volunteering after I graduate form high school.
