Personal Statement
I have been involved in athletics since I was in elementary school. Of course I participated in the typical soccer, basketball and a start-up girls lacrosse team. I was first introduced to Field Hockey when a family friend and ex-college Field Hockey player initiated a high school feeder program in our town. My speed and quickness helped me on breakaways and scoring in 5th and 6th grade but I needed to work on my skills. During my 7th and 8th grade seasons I played winter club indoor and spring club hockey. This was a huge help as I competed in a tough U19 league prior to entering High School.
I learned that continuing to raise my game requires extra work. Playing indoor helped my stick skills and playing in spring U19 helped me prepare for Freshman year as a Varsity starter for my High School. I also, learned that balancing athletics and academics is hard but still was able to maintain a strong GPA. I realize I still need to continue to raise my game on the field and off. I continuously set goals to stay focused and raise my game.
Competing at the High School level and club level is hard both physically and mentally. The competition is tough in both leagues and I have raised my game to compete with some of the best players at that level. I feel that my strengths are competitiveness, drive and leadership. On a team we all need to raise our game and push each other. That is an environment and program that inspires me.
