Personal Statement

“Surviving The Struggle”

By: Andrew McGee Jr.

Life is a struggle. I didn’t learn that because people told me, I learned that because my mother and father had me at the age of 18 and they really couldn’t take care of me because they didn’t have enough money. My mom was living with her grandmother because she had a harsh childhood with a drunk as a father and a drug abuser as a mother. My dad didn’t have his father in his life and he was raised with his 2 siblings and a cousin. Having me at a young age it was a lot of problems with buying baby food. When I got older I started playing football for the first time in 6th grade and I started to love the sport and decided it would be my dream to go division 1 and go to the NFL. As a teen I went through so many things such as living in different homes with my family because my parents didn’t have enough money to buy a house so we lived with different people and added more capacity to their homes. Going into my Junior year of high school things were turning out great and my parents bought everything they needed and made enough money to take care of us and keep a roof over our head.

No matter what struggle me and my family went through or go through it will never show on my face. I will smile and laugh just to hide the pain but deep down I am hurt. I’ve been through so much with my family it all just builds up and turns into pain and I relieve it by playing football and listening to music. People all go through problems but it won’t be the same as my problems and this is my story of me surviving the struggle.
