Personal Statement

Coaches,

Due to a shoulder injury (torn Labrum) that required surgery in November of 2013, I will not be playing college football during the 2014 season. I was just released by my doctor for conditioning on 5/13/14 and can begin conditioning now. I will start re-conditioning and spend the 2014 season trying to get stronger, faster, and hopefully larger, I will make my decision during that time if I want to continue my goal to play college football. I want to thank all the coaches that recruited me this last year and will be in contact with you if I decide to continue chasing my dream l Thank you all for your interest in me.

Zack Holcomb

My name is Zackary Holcomb and I will be a 2014 graduate of Elysian Fields High School which is near Marshall, Texas. After graduation from high school next year I plan to attend a university and hope to achieve my dream of playing collegiate football. I have worked hard towards that goal, playing sports my entire life including basketball, baseball, football, and track. I have attended numerous quality football camps each summer since I was in the 6th grade and continue to do so to improve my technique. As my blocking techniques have improved, so have my blocking percentage numbers, going from the mid 80’s as a freshman to 91% with 67 knockdowns, 33 pancakes, and only 1 allowed sack as a senior. I am a four year letterman and a three year starter playing for Elysian Fields varsity team, and have received several awards including All District 3 years in a row, All County, All East Texas, and was honored to be chosen 2nd Team All State on the 2012 2A Div 2 Padilla Poll.

My goal is to have an opportunity to show a college team my skills, work ethic, and contribute to the success of the program . I am first and foremost a team player and strive to help my teammates by pushing their limits as I expect them to test mine. I work hard to achieve academically and athletically, and understand the importance of performance in both fields to a college program. I know my present size at 6’-2”, 225 lbs., is considered small for offensive linemen at today’s collegiate standards, but all of my male family members are 6’-3” to 6’-7” and 275 lbs. to 350 lbs., so I am expected to continue growing.
