Personal Statement
Imagine making it to the playoffs and then winning the game in triple overtime to make it to the championship, only to lose the championship game. That was the case my freshman year of high school. I was so eager to get payback. During the off-season, I worked my tail off in the weight room and on my plays. Football is my motivation. Every time someone says the word football, it lights up my eyes. Football was introduced to me at a young age by my father and brother. They taught me the basics and the fundamentals of the game.
I had to overcome many obstacles to get me to where I am today. During my sophomore year, I got a major concussion. I tried to hide it so I could continue to play, but my teachers realized something was wrong and informed the school’s athletic trainer. This forced me to go to the doctor who informed me that my results concluded that I did, in fact, have a major concussion. Unfortunately, this caused me to miss many practices and two very important games. I am also flat-footed; which has caused me a lot of pain when running or simply being on my feet for long periods of time. I learned how to play through the pain for many years before finally going to the doctor and learning that I will need specially made orthotics for the rest of my life. Luckily, the orthotics have helped subside my pain tremendously.
Football has taught me about leadership, passion, and commitment. I consider myself a leader both on and off the field. Not only do I love playing football, but I also like to help out with the middle school team; teaching them plays, working on their footwork, and teaching them responsibility. During class and our study time, I help some of my classmates and other football players by tutoring them in math. I also like to get our team together for team building activities and helping others. For example, when we went to Key West we organized fun pool activities for young children to play. I am grateful for everything I have learned from football and truly believe that football has made me who I am today.
