Personal Statement
Football has been part of my life since I was 10 years old. Being one of the biggest players on the team has had both its advantages and disadvantages. Towering over most of the players enabled me to block them easily, but it also limited me in playing in youth football leagues because I was well-above the height and weight limits to play, yet too young to play on the high school B team. Because my father was on military active duty, we moved across the country three times in 18 months. Unfortunately, two of those moves were right in the middle of football seasons, and I feel that I really missed out being able to finish the season in both my freshman and sophomore years. Thankfully, I was able to be part of the varsity team at Carl Sandburg. Through it, I have learned so much about teamwork, sacrifice, and the commitment required to make the team successful. Unfortunately, I suffered a mild concussion half way through the season, and was unable to play in the remaining games. This limited any available film to post here for your viewing. I have completely recovered, and am eager to continue to play at the college level.
Transferring into very large public school after being homeschooled for seven years was definitely challenging. I was the new kid in a new state and a new school, and I knew no one. It was quite intimidating. I value my time being homeschooled because it laid the foundation for my character development and integrity. Now that I am in my senior year, I have a new confidence that I can be positive influence both on and off the field.
I envision and anticipate my college years to be a time of continued personal, academic, and physical growth. Off the field, I am undecided about a major, but am considering computer science. On the field, I will continually strive to be an impact player and an asset to the team by reaching beyond what I think I am physically capable of and conducting myself with honor and respect, knowing that the way I carry myself reflects my team, my coaches, and the school I attend.
