Personal Statement

There are many reasons I feel I’m a great candidate for any team that would consider me. Not only will my skills set be an asset to the team, but I will also bring a positive attitude, diligence, dedication, inspiration, and motivation to my teammates.  I have played football since I was five years old.  All my life,  many people have doubted my athletic ability and the possibility of me accomplishing my dream of playing college football and even beyond.  Since being taught to work hard, study regular, pursue my goals and believe in myself, I have never let those negative ideas settle in my head. My parents raised me to have positive thoughts about myself no matter the negativity others might say. Even when I needed to improve in one area or another, I never felt I wasn't good enough at that level, instead I always pushed myself harder to see how much better I could be at the next level. Having a strong commitment to myself and my personal growth and development, I am confident that my work ethic as an athlete and my steady focus on being the best person and athlete that I can be will prevail over that negativity. I’m looking forward to being an example of how perseverance, dedication, faith and commitment to my goals will take me above and beyond anything I could ever imagine.

The main thing that makes me different from any other candidate is that I am driven to be successful in everything I pursue and to make my family proud in the process in spite of the hills and mountains I have to climb along the way. There are so many young guys who lose focus and miss their opportunity  because they don’t live life everyday with a commitment to accomplishing their goals, no matter the difficulties or obstacles that pop up along the journey. I am not built like that. I cannot lose focus because my goals are the things that make me go harder every day. In class, on the field-there is no difference. I remind myself every day, ”I will accomplish my goals, I will improve my grades, I will go to a great college with a great program in my major, I will give 150% in everything I do, and I will not give up no matter what the circumstances might be”. I understand the effort and mindset needed to overcome obstacles that seem to block your way. I know how it feels when the cards seem to be stacked against you no matter how hard you work to achieve a goal. At the same time, my parents taught me the belief in myself, my skills, my strength and my ability to endure the pressure will be the foundation to succeeding at anything I go after. My parents also taught me about the power of a positive self image, self esteem and self assurance. With this mindset, I push myself to the limit and never forget what I have to offer or how I can be an asset to others.

The other thing that stands out about my character that is different from other players is that being a starter on my team,  doesn’t make me think I'm the best. I always remind myself I can and will get better day after day. I know if I accept the idea of being the best, it might get in the way of my drive to go harder and to get better and better and better. So I don't take being a starter for granted. If I believe there is a higher level to becoming better or smarter, then I'm going to go after it; and no matter how hard it gets, I will never give up.

I am studying harder everyday to improve my GPA while working hard on the field and with my personal trainer. My family has made many sacrifices for me all my life. I have committed myself to reaching a level of success where they will see  their sacrifices have not been wasted. I am appreciative of all the sacrifices of my family, extra support and guidance from my coaches, personal trainers and teachers. I have been blessed with an awesome support system and I believe in my heart there will come a day when each and every person who has helped me along the way will see their efforts have been the foundation for my growth as a young man, my development as an athlete and my success in the future.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share a little bit about me with you and I hope for the chance to speak with you soon.
