Personal Statement
As early as I can remember, I have always loved to run. My first taste of speed was when I was playing soccer at 3 years old, and I have never stopped running. Fast forward 14 years and I have excelled as a student athlete, participating in various high school sports from track to football. I started running AAU track at the age of 5 and excelled at the 100M, 200M and 4x1 relay. I have been playing football since I was 7 years old and from the first time on the field, I have loved the sport. On the field I am coachable, relentless and hardworking. Being on a team you are no longer playing for yourself; you are playing for the benefit of the team. As a teammate, I always bring positive energy to help everyone play at their maximum ability. My primary offensive football position has always been running back; however, I also have experience on the defensive side of the ball at linebacker and safety. During the spring/summer, I have participated in numerous college football and training camps to continually get better. I was the starting JV running back my sophomore and junior season and lettered for varsity my junior year. Additionally, I have been on the varsity track team since my sophomore year competing in the 100M, 200M and 4x1 relay.
Off the field, I have a 3.2 GPA and my transcript reflects rigorous coursework. While serving on student council, I have had many opportunities to demonstrate my leadership skills working on many committees that impact the school. Outside of school, I have been a youth summer counselor for vacation bible school, volunteered with the Lawrenceville Co-op Ministry in the food pantry to assist our neighbors in need, worked in my community with the H.O.O.K.E.D Youth Leadership Teen Club and participated in Operation Christmas Child, a program which allows underprivileged children worldwide to receive shoeboxes of toys, school supplies, and toiletries.
While I love sports, getting a quality education is also very important to me. As noted above, I like to be involved, give back to my community and help others. While I plan to continue my athletics in college, I also plan to major in Biomedical Sciences with a goal to help others. My grandmother is survivor of breast cancer. At an early age I was told and wondered, what was cancer? As I got older, my question became is this preventable? Was there a pill or vaccination she could have taken earlier to prevent this? Because of these questions I developed an interest in science and would like to major in this field to further the research of science with hopes of making cancer preventable; ultimately hoping for a cure.
All my experiences on and off the field have honed me into the well-rounded young man I am today. I have the drive and commitment to excel in the classroom as well as on the field. I look forward to earning an opportunity at a school where I can develop both academically and athletically while pursuing my degree.
