Personal Statement

Hi Coach! 

My name is Penny Valbuena and I am a 2023 grad who plays for Myers Park HS in Charlotte, NC. I also have played Club for Charlotte Ambush for 7 years. Overtime I have become very passionate about field hockey and plan to continue playing at the college level. Some of things I love about, FH are the competition, the fast pace and the atmosphere and connections with my teammates and coaches. FH has been such a big part of my life and given me so many fun memories, from trips to Disney to down-pouring rain at the USFH training center to many road trips to VA to last but not least Lancaster, PA for NIT's!

Playing a team sport for so many years has also taught me many valuable skills like being a leader and knowing when to step up, as well as knowing when to support my teammates to get the best outcome for the whole group. Playing field hockey has also done a great job of teaching me at an early age how to balance family, a lifeguarding job, school work and sports which is not always easy but is an important life skill.  

I also played lacrosse and have been a year-round swimmer for seven years which I enjoy very much, but it made me realize that team sports, specifically field hockey is the sport I love. Thanks for checking out my profile, hope to talk to you soon! I just might be the perfect fit for your team.
