Personal Statement
Jan 7, 2018. My name is Alex Kumskis, a 6'2 230# sophomore lineman at Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale IL. I'm the second oldest in a family of six kids. My older sister is a senior at Central and is in the midst of deciding on a college, among her choices are WI, CO, IA and Illinois. My younger siblings attend the same local catholic grade school that I went to. As one of the older kids in my family and always one of the biggest in my grade I've always been kind of the "leader of the pack". This has taught me to behave in a way where I know others will follow my example. I don't cut corners and I'm not afraid of hard work. At the end of my freshman football season my OL coach suggested wrestling would be good for me. With that suggestion I've wrestled my freshman and sophomore years. The matches are tough but the practices are tougher. The motto used often is ABG "always be grinding". I pride myself on being on a grinder and I don't think there's many others my size and age who enjoy the grind like I do.
Sports have always been a big part of my life. My mom and dad were competitive athletes in high school. My mom just ran the Chicago marathon. My moms brother played football at Nebraska and my grandpa was cut from the Browns after getting injured in his first training camp. Sports are a constant topic of conversation and always on the TV.
I'm working hard to make sure my grades stay where they need to be, I'm aiming for at least a B average. While I do like engineering, I'm undecided as to what I actually want to be. I'm also undecided as to what kind of college I want to go to.
