Personal Statement
Although some people believe going to a private school would be considered a privilege, however, I felt just the opposite. Many questions swirled in my head like any other 9th grader going to any high school in America. Up to this moment, all the hoopla from my mom going on and on for 2 years about this new school she discovered and the cost of the monthly tuition was just banter talk. I knew we did not have the extra money in our family's budget so I had my hopes on attending the local high school where all my friends would be attending. Events in my life started to change quite rapidly when my mom picked up an extra job at night doing rideshare.
My Mom was always determined to do her best for the family. She taught me how being determined and persistence is character traits that will help you on and off the field. As a result, at the football banquet, I was awarded Frosh Defensive Player of the Year and all my coaches were given the opportunity to discuss how my character of being determined and never giving up has helped the team. My determination on the field took will power and effort. I would wake up at 5 am and go to the gym with my dad then go to lengthy practices with my teammates in order to become stronger for the position I played. On the hot days when I felt like giving up, the determination my mom taught me allowed me to endure no matter what.
My school can be quite challenging at times, and therefore I feel prepared to attend a Division I, II, or III school or any school presented to me. Not that I have attained my goal of attaining a 4.0 in high school, I do try my best academically. I am a person who asks questions and applies what I have learned in everyday life. As a senior, I am grateful that I was able to attend a private school. Moreover, the school has taught me to be an independent thinker, engage in community projects utilizing my communication and social skills, and taught me so much about the cultures of the world and different religious practices. I must say I am eager to start living life on a collegiate campus because I feel prepared academically.
My goal is to attend a great college and study physical therapy that will enable me to heal the body of the young as well as the elderly. My aspirations include becoming an entrepreneur and working in my own office to devote the time to listen and become a friend with each of my patients. Whatever struggles we face in life can be overcome with just a listening ear and a smile. Becoming a college graduate may seem daunting but because of the character values instilled in me from my family, my goal is within reach.
I really don't look at football as just something I did in high school. I have the aspirations, talent, size & strength, as well as determination to play on the collegiate level. I get the enjoyment of bonding with a group of young men with one common goal of winning the game. The roaring cheers of the crowd echoing through the stadium give me a high that is unexplainable. I am not ready to hang up my cleats after my senior year. I still have many turfs to uproot, echoes of cheer from the stadium to hear, and many championships to play in. No, I am not ready at all to give up on football. I am just beginning to be the best player I can become on a collegiate level. So, if any university is seeking a determined, easy going coachable, mild tempered 6'2, 285 lb Defensive Tackle & Offensive Tackle, look no further, Cordell Towns is your candidate.
