Personal Statement

I got this dream in my head and it’s on everyday like The Fresh Prince reruns on BET. This dream is bigger than me, there is no telling how many lives will be affected by my dream. A wise man once said “ The bigger the dream, the harder the grind”. This quote means what it means, it doesn’t get simpler than that. I always thought of myself as a athlete first and still I do. If somebody came up to me, the first question they would ask was if I played football. During my freshmen year the last thing I was known as was a student-athlete. I’m gonna be real with you, I never liked school, the classes, and the homework. I almost felt like a stereotype at that point. My sophomore year hits me with more problems that I can solve. My grades were bad, I lost my position in football, and it was just week 3. I wish somebody would’ve told me to control  what I can and not what I can’t. I had to learn the hard way. You can’t control people and fate, but you can control your attitude, your destiny, and how people view you. The winter of 2017, I hit a turning point in my life. I started seeing the big picture and how precious time was to me. Back then I just wanted to have fun and compete whenever and wherever. I started to realize all the missed opportunities would’ve gave me an advantage down the road. Another wise man once said “it’s not about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep going. Every day since I have been setting goals, listening in class, and grinding it out in the weight room. I’ve been using my passion and heart as a drive down this road. I started making the days count instead of counting the days. Nothing is ever set and stone unless it settles. I hate settling for things, whether it’s a C on a test or a 4.6 40yd dash. I’m gonna put gonna put the work in, get A on that test, and run a 4.4 40yd dash. I believe life is about being the best version of you. So that’s the plan, I’m gonna be best version of myself to achieve my dream.
