Personal Statement
My college goals are to be successful in all I work for. Throughout high school, I have been unlike most of my friends by being very conscientious of my academics. I spend quite a bit of time studying, and this takes time management skills with playing football, workouts, and a job. I see myself as very disciplined by being able to balance all. I have taken all available 5 pt classes, honors, and dual enrollment classes in order to be better prepared for college. I see all of my hard work in the classroom is unlike most and can be valuable to any team. When speaking of football, I always try to lead by example. Leadership is something I take seriously. I have started on my high school football team since my freshman year and had to take the role as a leader at a young age. My junior year, I was nominated as a team captain and took this role holding others accountable in the weight room, practices, and games. I have always believed to be a leader, you have to show others what is expected. In saying that, I have taken everything involving school and football very seriously. I have had perfect attendance at school and have never missed anything involving my football team. I believe a person should never be satisfied with doing your best because then you settle, and you never strive for anything more. In all I do, I try to do more than just what is expected of me. I was also chosen as a member of the Smith County Youth Leadership Program. Twelve juniors are chosen between the two high schools in my county; therefore, this is very reputable to be chosen. In this program, we learn about undertakings in our county, showing us the importance of leaders to make all things work. In this group, we form our own project to benefit the county, along with community service hours. I have also been nominated by the teachers at my school to attend the TN American Legion Boys State during the week of May 19-25, 2019.
Outside of sports, I am an avid outdoorsman. I am currently president of my schools hunting club, Hunters for the Hungry. Each year, we harvest deer that are donated to feed needy families. Last year, I won the top harvester award for Region II and our club won 2nd place. I take quite a bit of pride in this club for the actions it takes in helping to feed the needy. I am also a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, which works to conserve the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage. Along with hunting, I also enjoy fishing and kayaking.
