Personal Statement
My name is Alex Van Horne, and I have been playing football since the 6th grade when I joined my town’s youth team. Ever since that first day, I have loved playing and even more loved the feeling of community and family I have built competing side by side with my “on field brothers”. During the past 3 years on my high school team, I’ve played defensive guard as well as offensive or defensive tackle. I have been a player on the Varsity scout team, and I have also been a starter and learned how important each role is in the success of my team. Being part of the squad that helped to prepare my teammates mentally and physically for the game on Friday night was more valuable than I realized. When I became a starter, I used my understanding of the scout team to encourage them any way I could because they were helping me become the best player I could be. I have many hopes for being a football player in college and I know some of them are not original such as becoming a strong player for the team, to help win a bowl or championship. I would say my biggest goal as a player would be to grow as a person and not only as a player. Of course, I want my skills to improve for the better of the team, but I also want my character to be built up, so people see me as a good and helpful person to the community. I feel this goal can be achieved through playing college football because a lot of the drills and time management skills I would have to learn to play can be translated into my everyday life and be used for the rest of my life. My second biggest goal would be to maintain a healthy living style that both supports my physical aspect of playing to my best potential on the field but also grows and supports me through a mental aspect with positive self-views and looking at life through a positive lens.
