Personal Statement
A leader has been a term used to describe me from a very early stage in life. From being top tier in the classroom by maintaining a 3.9 GPA, to being featured on our local news with Divison 1 athletes for being one of the five best players in the state of Florida. My athletic abilities placed me in the running for the 2021 Youth Heisman Award. Leadership is in my blood. Making the world around me better is what I am all about. God has gifted me with a powerful voice and I know it can make a difference with my peers. And that is exactly what I intend to do, help people reach their best selves.
Another way I exhibit leadership is in a way that I feel is a lost art in the modern world and that is having a mindset for service. I have completed countless hours of community service including feeding more than 200 of our city’s homeless in one day and making public appearances to read to the elders in my community. It starts with giving back and I want to leave the best footprint I can on this earth before I go.This is part of what motivates my entrepreneurial pursuits. Next to being an NFL player, I have longed to be an entrepreneur and start my own streetwear clothing brand, which I have already gotten a head start on. I have always honored and admired the creativity and self satisfaction of being original and coming up with new ideas. With there only being 28 major black owned clothing brands I see this as an oppurtunity to shine the spotlight on something that should be more regularly talked about. Being black, I understand the hardship and adversity we face as a people. I feel like the reason that number is so low is because overall we are not gifted the same opportunities and knowledge such as this program. Some of us have the same passion and same fire but are not taught how to maintain and grow off of what they have already created. With that being said, that is why when I get my clothing business well off the ground, I will commit a portion of my proceeds to support economically disadvantaged Black collegiate athletes with the resources to continue their post-secondary endeavors. That is the dream, any way I can give back to kids and people who look just like me, I will most definitely do it.
