Personal Statement

HI, my name is Emmett Lee Hixon Jr. I am the fourth oldest out of five children. I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. My family and I relocated to Toledo Ohio 1 year ago to support my 81-year-old grandma.

I've been playing football since I was 8 years but fell in love with the game at just 3 years old. When I was little my father said he used to yell, "come on Emmett time to watch the game", to cheer on his favorite team. He said I would come running in the room screaming with my football.

My future goals for college would be to maintain a 4.0 studying Sports Management while playing football.

5 reasons a recruiter would not regret recruiting me is 1. I have strong and consistent work ethic. For example, I survey the field before every game and report to practice before all others, including coaches. I dedicate time off the field to improve my performance. For example, I have two trainers, 1- position trainer and 2- position and strength trainer who I work out with several days per week.  2. I pay close attention to the smaller details on both sides of the ball. For example, studying film, visualizing running my routes before the play starts to see how I can get myself open, while anticipating with the other team will do. 3.  I am a flexible player. Some recruits are only able to play one position. However, I have been able to play more than 1 during any season. Majority of my experience I have played more than 1 position. For example, playing offense and defense and specials teams. 4. I have undeniable level of grit.  I have experienced many hardships such as recovering from a concussion as a child, to relocating to Toledo- a city where I had to start completely over with my life. Such as looking for new trainers, a new school and not really knowing many people in a city that I barely visited. 5. I am child 4 of 5. Growing up money was always tight even with both parents working. My mother always drilled in my siblings and I how an education is important and first. She went back to college and graduated with a bachelor's degree when I was growing up. She always says the same strength that is in her is in me. The family being educated is an expectation NOT a desire.   January of 2024 my father had a heart attack and that put our family back into a financial and emotional strain. I had to really be the rock for my family by giving providing financial and emotional support. I believe the hardships I faced help to develop the mindset and spirit that I get to work out, I get to go to practice, I get to run, I get to lift, I get to play football not I have to. Life experiences have helped me realize that no matter what I face in life, I will make it through, as long as I have the right support, the right people, the right mind set, and God at the center of my life.

Thank Yours Truly Emmett Hixon Jr
