Personal Statement
GENERATIONAL FOOTBALL MIND- Hey coaches, this is Bear Keating. Thank you for considering me for your program. Here is a brief list reaffirming your thoughts about me, my character, and how I can lead your program to new heights.
- I was blessed with a generational talent of football IQ. From an early age I've been able to see the game at a very high level. Coupled with my thirst for knowledge and passion for leadership, I don't only know my assignments, but the assignments of my teammates and opponents.
- Coachability; it is because my desire for knowledge that makes me coachable. Football is an everchanging game my intellect pared with my coachability gives me a distinct competitive advantage.
- Poise; this quite possibly might be the most important quality in a quarterback, and one I'm most proud of. This is because poise is a life skill, something I will use decades after my football career. One of my favorite things about being poise is that it separates the winners from the pretenders.
- Toughness; not only was I blessed with Scandinavian genes and the inner Viking that lies within, but most importantly I am mentally tough. I don't let people or outside circumstances to dictate mine.
- Accuracy; I, like the great coach and quarterback whisperer Bruce Arians believes, that accuracy although can be improved upon, is a God given talent. I am so blessed with pinpoint accuracy, touch, and an understanding for ball placement in situational football. Such as protecting my receiver by throwing the ball on his inside hip away from an incoming defender.
- Athleticism; having grown up and excelled as a defenseman in both hockey and lacrosse. Not only did this gave me a diversified skillset, but a comfortability in close proximity while playing such a tuff and fast paced sport. This not only speaks to my athleticism as a multi-sport athlete, but my competitive nature and defenseman's perspective. Along with this, I am proud to say that I led my 7on7 team in interceptions as a linebacker on a high-level team.
Thank you for your consideration.
