Personal Statement
I have spent a month in the US this summer, attending camps at IMG, Stanford, Headfirst, Brown, PG Atlanta, and Duke. I pitched to a 2.45 ERA with 19K in 18.1IP. I added 3mph to my fastball, have increasingly developed my control within the strike zone, and generally feel that I have made real improvements in this short space of time.
I believe that I am playing baseball at a level that is very competitive with US-based prospective players, well within DIII level, and that with the right program, opportunity and coaching I can elevate my game considerably further, compared to the more limited opportunities and infrastructure that are available to me in the UK.
At 6' 4", many coaches tell me I am highly projectable.
At the same time, a high level academic program is of very high importance to me for my future career potential, as well as to be in an environment where I can have some great life learning experiences.
Getting to a level where I can represent Great Britain all the way through to the men’s national team, including hopefully to play in the WBC at some future point, is also a high ambition for me. Playing ay US college level is a big criterion that is being applied in team selection these days.
I have been an outstanding player in the UK system throughout the time I first started playing T-ball at age 5. I am playing in the UK National Baseball League from age 15, and I represent the Great Britain team at 18U level (I also played at 12U and 15U), as well as playing on UK travel teams in European tournaments.
I am a starting pitcher for my club team in the National Baseball League, and already have an outstanding curveball and strong slider. My fastball is in the 80s. I also have very strong skills in the infield, especially at 3B, and regularly hit above .400 in European tournaments in my age group.
My goal in playing baseball at university in the US is to hone and develop my skills to further my ambition of becoming the first UK-born player to play professionally in the US, as well as finding somewhere that I can receive an outstanding education, and develop myself as a person with wide experience of different cultures and perspectives.
My agility, reflexes and size are all significant assets athletically. I am an extremely supportive teammate, also with a significant desire to outperform and to win. I am seeking a university which will enable me to continue at a high level in academics and offer me a broad set of opportunities for a future career.
One of my coaches is Drew Spencer, who is the GB WBC head coach, and he would be happy to talk to you also if you would like to hear more about me from him.
I also coach younger kids to play baseball most weekends.
