Hi! My name is Waverly Cullison, I am a junior and just completed my third season of Varsity Volleyball. I played for Bremen High School’s Varsity Volleyball team in my freshman and sophomore years, but moved to Alpharetta, GA, this past summer and played on Milton High School’s Varsity Volleyball team this semester. I have played volleyball for eight years. My first two years were with the local Parks and Recreation league, followed by six years in club.
I enjoy the technical and mental challenges of this sport. I push myself to read the court to place my serves and hits in seams. I work hard to read an opponent’s body to set up my block. Mentally, the best players learn from their mistakes, fix what is wrong, and focus on the next point. On the social side of things, I like how each player on a volleyball team has a specific role to fill and must communicate constantly to win a point. Supporting a teammate’s game is just as important as playing your best.
Academics are important to me. My schedule includes a rigorous course load and I work hard to stay at the top of my class. My parents, both scientists, have inspired me to pursue a career in the health sciences. I am currently interested in Biology and Biomedical Engineering. I am considering a career in medicine.
Though volleyball consumes most of my non-academic time, I also enjoy several other activities. As an outdoor enthusiast I often go camping with my Scout Troop or Venturing Crew. I have been in Scouts since kindergarten and completed my Eagle Scout project this past summer. When I’m not playing volleyball or exploring nature with my scout friends, I relax by practicing calligraphy and listening to music. My favorite pastimes have involved traveling with my family and friends.
I am excited for the opportunity to explore volleyball programs through the NCSA platform. I look forward to finding my next volleyball home and to competing at the next level.
