Personal Statement
What details of your life have influenced who you are?
My parents have really shaped me and my character throughout my life. Without them, I would not be the person I am today. Putting others first and recognizing the opportunities given to me comes from my parents. Serving others in Haiti, and here at home, since I was 6 years old has taught me that it is always better to be kind and giving to others.
When and how did you become interested in your sport?
I played tee-ball in South Charleston, WV when I was about 5 years old. After I picked up a bat and threw a baseball, I knew it was the sport for me. The lifelong friendships, competition, and growth as a person makes baseball the best sport ever played.
What have you learned about yourself through playing your sport?
I’ve learned that I’m a great teammate, I pick others up even when I’m personally unsuccessful. I am also a great leader and do my best to keep the team energy positive at all times. I have had to overcome obstacles and adversity. I know it is ok to fail. Having a good attitude and body language at all times also allows me to represent my team and myself in the most positive way.
What are your academic goals for high school.
To continue to be a straight A student. Try to maintain a 4.0 GPA. Be the best Person I can be and always lift up others. I especially want to encourage younger players to do their best in school and show them acceptance and kindness on and off of the field.
What are your academic goals for college?
Currently, I would like to go into veterinary medicine or some type of science field. I can see myself going to graduate school as well. My mom is a Nurse Practitioner who always helps others. I have had the opportunity to help her serve others in Haiti and here at home. My academic goals would include a degree that lets me help people or animals.
Have you had to overcome any obstacles to get where you are?
The winter before my 8th grade season I started to have pain in my right shoulder. Turns out, I had an inflamed rotator cuff. Had to go to physical therapy twice a week and do countless excercises every night. It was about for 10-12 weeks but I overcame it and now I am healthier than ever. I also learned how to exercise in the process to gain strength and stay healthy.
What unique characteristics or skills do you possess?
I’m a very strong and big for my age. I’m able to hit the ball very hard and far while maintaining an excellent batting average. I am a catcher but also play anywhere in the infield. My composure on and off of the field is that of a leader. My body language will always be that of a positive, competitive leader. Having seen true suffering in disadvantaged countries since I was a very little boy allows me to realize what a privilege it is to play the amazing game of baseball.
