Personal Statement
My name is Lance Woessner, and I am a sophomore at Shaler Area High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a sophomore, I am enrolled in multiple Honors and AP classes and hold very high expectations for myself as a student. So far, I have been able to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.9 with straight A’s and B’s. With this GPA, I earned a spot on the Highest Honor Roll. While my grades are extremely important to me, I commit most of my free time to playing soccer. I strive to perform my best in both soccer and school simultaneously.
Soccer has been one of the most important parts of my life for as far as I can remember; I have enjoyed playing the sport since I was five years old. Ever since this young age, watching professional soccer games on television has helped me have a better understanding of the game and has inspired me to want to continue playing the sport that I am passionate about at the college level. I have attended multiple soccer camps hosted by universities throughout the years in order to enhance my skills and during the offseason, I take it upon myself to run six miles every day and practice ball control/footwork in order to ensure that I am a valuable member of my team during our next season. I am grateful to play year-round on a cup team called the Hotspurs Soccer Club and have also earned a varsity letter the last two years on my high school team at Shaler.
I appreciate the game of soccer because it allows me to be individually competitive while also allowing me to learn from and work together with other players in order to win the game. On both my cup team and high school team, I play multiple different positions on the field, including center forward, defensive midfield, and even goalie, but my best position is as a defender, specifically left-back or center-back. My ability to play a variety of positions is one characteristic that is unique about me as a player. My commitment to and love for the sport of soccer, along with my discipline to earn stellar grades, will undoubtedly allow me to become a collegiate student in just a few short years. I am determined and eager to find a college/university that will be a great fit for me as a student and as an athlete.
